The Water Resources team at Universal Engineering has provided solutions to water-related problems throughout the country to federal, state and local agencies, as well as private clients. Using the state of the art modeling and data retrieval technologies, we help our clients make management, planning, and operational decisions through sound predictions of hydrologic and ecological system conditions and optimization of system’s operations. Our team of engineers are very experienced in drainage design and stormwater design.
Experienced modelers and programmers at Universal have constructed hydrologic and ecologic models of varying complexity from concept to application using state of the art computer and software resources to solve a wide range of problems. Our modeling approach is problem-specific and is tailored to the client, technical and logistic requirements such as problem time and spatial scale, model resolution, input data availability as well as project budget and time constraints. We have extensive experience in applying state of the art engineering software to hydrologic and hydraulic, and ecologic problems including storwater treatment models and subsequent stormwater design tasks. Examples of these software include surface water models such as HEC-HMS and GSSHA; groundwater models such as MODFLOW, Groundwater/Surface water models such as MIKE-SHE, SFWMM, RSM, HEC-1, watershed and water quality-based models such as BASINS; environmental impact of land use and land management practices models such as SWAT and ecologic models such as WASH123D. We also use event-based physical models such as MIKE 11, HEC-RAS, SWMM and UNET). We have the capability to make the right selection of the proper modeling tools based on the client needs, problem, time frame and budget.
Our personnel have extensive work experience with real time and emergency modeling under disaster events such as Tornados and Hurricanes. Our direct experience with such events has increased our skills to develop modeling response plans maximizing the use of hydrologic data and meteorological forecast to enhance our flood control engineering and hydrology engineering activities. Our toolbox includes back of envelope and spreadsheet calculation templates that are tailored to developing effective solutions for our clients.
